did I do it right

StarOcean said:

Hola, how is everyone? Well? Good. Anyway, after some discussion with other mods we decided to make a thread series on the various functions on VGChartz! Why? Because a lot of people need help with this (and other functions) and are usually too lazy to ask. Let's-a-go!

So, multiquote, what is it, and why would I use it?

Well one example I can give is; let's say you make a thread and want to reply to everyone but don't want to A. spam the thread with 5 or so comments at once or B. want to save time by only making one large reply.

How do I do it?

It's simple! On the bottom right-hand corner of each person who posts a comment you'll see a list of (probably familiar) options: Reply, Quote, Multi-Quote, etc. But it should be your third (or if you're a mod) fourth option. Once you click the Multi-Quote option you will see a message pop-up saying, "Post added to quote list." -after that the option will disappear for that post. Rinse and repeat and when you've taken enough quotes you can now make a comment with the group of selected quotes. Make sure you use the Rich Text Reply option. If you do Quick Reply, you cannot multiquote.

Will everyone get notified by the blue marker if I multiquote?

Yes, everyone will get the blue reply mark, ensuring that everyone knows they were replied to by you.

Here's a few examples for multiquote:

Anyway, I hope this and future threads might be helpful for new users or users whom have yet to use the function!

You should also explain stuff like if multi-quoting will turn each reply "blue".
A lot of people don't use multi-quote because they think someone won't get their message turned "blue".

Good idea. I'll add that in

A feature that really helps out in these situations, nice and simple guide too, now you must continue the series!

How and why did you find that famous quote from Toastboy (May he rest in peace)?

If you decide to not quote someone after first clicking multi-quote, it's a bit tricky to undo the multi-quote thing. Well, I think it was pretty simple actually, but I think I've triggered the blue thing a couple of times even though I didn't end up quoting people... So yeah, that part needs some usability improvement somehow. You might want to explain that too. Other than that, this is a great idea!

I'm not sure why I felt the urge to find a Toastboy quote. I just randomly thought of him today and had to use a quote from him.

Yeah. I could add that in. Can you explain exactly what happened and I'll add it in as some user testimony

I prefer to quote people individualy. Most of the time each person deserves a unique response. When a thread becomes an echo chamber though, multi-quote does come in handy. Lets talk about how to imbed a video properly. Most of the time all I see is missing plugin.

Don't worry. That's coming tomorrow

Well, if you click multi-quote on multiple posts, then decide you don't want to quote both of them after all, it's not enough to go to rich text reply and erase the unwanted quotation because it'll still trigger the blue icon. You need to click the multi-quote button again before going to the rict text reply mode to actually remove the unwanted quote and prevent triggering the blue icon. It's not a hard thing after all, but it took me a while to find how to remove the unwanted quotation and at first glance, you'd think erasing the quotation from the post would be enough to prevent triggering the blue icon.

I suck at explaining. I really hope this was understandable.

You over use muti-quoting sometimes though and appear to be very antagonistic sometimes by doing it. Is this on purpose?

Not at all. And If I come across as antoganistic, that isn't my intention, I'll try and do better in future.

The tech-oriented threads are my cup of tea, which is pretty much the main place I use Multi-Quote, sadly not many of those threads at the moment.

Thats nice to know. Massive muti-quoting is just your style then, and not intended to intimidate or otherwise attack someone then. Its an interesting and sometimes overbearing approach to discussion and nothing more.

I got you. It's happened to me a lot. There are times I just leave the thread, and end up with those quotes in a completely new thread. Then I have to go back and look for said post to unquote it... pretty annoying.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
