I wonder if Europe is sort of like Nintendo's Achilles heel.  Not as bad as the Xbox in Japan, but the one major region where Nintendo hardware sales are rather unreliable.

No, there are games that sell better in Europe than the US, like Tomodachi Life, Professor Layton and Yokai Watch.

It's just that a lot of Europeans have terrible taste in sports and video games: if it doesn't have Fifa it won't sell gangbusters. ;)
