Am i the only one that wishes that come next gen they throw in an internal nand flash drive of like say 512GB to save costs but with a channel that allows upwards of 2GB/s transfers then leave us with this option of using external drives too?

That way we can have a super fast internal drive, and a "fast enough" external drive that we can move games we want to play from.

I was having the same thought. Next gen needs a serious increase in RAM, and that will require a serious increase in storage bandwidth. If they did what you are saying, we could get a console with 64GB of RAM (which is the absolute minimum for a generational leap) and quicker load times than we have now. It would be amazing to see what devs could do with a baseline of 64GB of RAM and storage with with a baseline transfer rate around 2GB/s.

This update is a game changer IMO. I think Sony is setting themselves up to have quicker iteration on consoles going forward. All PlayStation games going forawrd will be built with multiple power levels in mind, and kept open for performance increases as more powerful devices arrive. It is time that new consoles become a yearly thing, with people being allowed to upgrade as they want.

The external storage adds even more support to the idea of more upgrades coming. If I can have all of my games on the external HDD, then just move that to any console, it makes upgrading much more painless.

The ability to join parties, join friends sessions, and more without leaving the quick menu means they will be on par with the XBO UI in terms of speed and simplisity for online gaming. This is huge for a couple of people I know, may have a handful of people ready to switch from XBO to PS4 Pro very soon.

I can't wait to see how things play out going forward. As a huge VR fan, I think Sony needs to keep their hardware fresh, and near industry leading levels if they want PSVR to be a major success. This update looks to me, like they are laying the foundation to make the PS4 Platform/OS much, much bigger.
