it's was not, but this time, it is

My point is that despite low sales and fact that Wii U is dead Nintendo made great profit and actual 3x bigger profit than whole Sony, so this "PSN brings in more money than all of Nintendo" doenst tell whole picture.

So what am I missing here? I thought operating income = profit and Nintendo's Q3 operating income of 32 billion yen is in no way 4x Sony's Q3 operating income of 92.4 billion yen.

Edit: Seems they are using "Net income attributable to Sony Corporation’s  stockholders" for profit. ugh, why can't they just label one "profit" so it was simple

Anyways, using that figure instead Nintendo's 64.6 billion, still isn't 4x Sony's 19.6 billion, so your "fact" is still false. It is just over 3x though.

Yes, you are right, little over 3x not 4x.

If you are actually after "the whole picture", let me explain somethings:

Sony recorded a 1 billion writedown in their movie division. This means that Sony adjusted the value of their movie division down by 1 billion. Even though this isn't a recurring cost related to operations, it is recorded as operating income, and it basically means that in reality, Sony made 1 billion more this quarter. At the same time, Nintendo made 47 billion yen (about 500 million USD) from foreign exchange gains, which is a one time gain (similar to how Sony's writedown of 1 billion is a one time loss).

Put simply, when Sony announced this result, their stock was up 5%. When Nintendo announced their result, their stock was down 5%. There's a reason for that.
