Why don't they just admit Switch is the successor. Why would I want two portable nintendo consoles.....

Because 3DS and 3DS are still selling good and they want to keep that regardless Switch, so they currently saying Switch isn't successor to 3DS.

Does that mean the Switch won't be getting a proper pokemon game?

Of Course not, Pokemon Company confirms support for NX few months ago.

It will probably be contingent on the Switch's performance. If the Switch does well, we probably won't see another dedicated handheld from Nintendo for a while. If it does poorly, we can probably see an "HDS" (for lack of a better name) announced some time within the next two years.

Im 100% convinced we will see a revision in roughly 1.5 years (the time frame in which GBA/DS/3DS each had their first revisions) that is smaller (5" screen, Vita size), cheaper ($199), longer battery life (3.5-7 hours) & portable only (cant plug in dock, no detachable controls).

By this time 3DS sales & support will be minimal so they will effectively be able to market this device as the 3DS successor. I also think we can see other revisions like a TV only, microconsole form factor also for $199 and a moderately enhanced model (think GB to GBC, DS to DSi, 3DS to N3DS) with a 1080p screen that has equel performance to the docked mode of the original model, sold at $299 to replace the original model.

Totaly agree.
