From what I can remember the improvement in third party support on the DS started off awful in 2004, and it slowly improved through 2005 and 2006; by E3 2006 developers were really starting to back the DS with many more good games. It wasn't until 2007 that the DS really had the third party support that was appropriate for a system which was as dominant as it is.

Oh so it got better gradually over time. I hope the wii doesn't take too long to get ds levels.

Well, the DS took well over 2 and almost 3 years to become dominant in terms of software. The Wii has been out for what, 18 months? That's not even 2 years. And not only that, but every third party dev was thinking the PS3 was going to "win" the console war again this time. In the DS's case, everyone thought the PSP would crush the DS. The DS had a multitude of minigames and such. The EXACT SAME thing is happening to the Wii as it has happened to the DS.

The Wii is going to get better support over time. It's clear in Japan that the Wii is the dominant #1 console for this gen, so we should expect tons of Japanese support. In the West, it might be the same but we'll see. It seems Western devs prefer the combined PS3-360 user base so I'm not sure they'll support the Wii as heavily as Japanese devs, but we'll see.

I expect big things at E3, and TGS which will follow into 2009.

Can I quote you on that and it save for later to prove if you were right or wrong?
