I doubt Sony is worried about getting into any and every market, like MS is. You don't succeed by entering a market 2-3 years or more too late, that already has a VERY clear 1st and 2nd winner and hope to spend your way to 1st, again, like MS. In fact, they are doing the exact opposite, getting rid of or spending less money on markets they aren't doing so hot in. It's a much better business plan for them at this point. |
It is not about spending your way to first place, it is about building an ecosystem where you can stay engaged with your customer 24/7 and anywhere they go. Any company that does not have that has no future in consumer electronics and operating systems. Microsoft knows that they can not survive on PC alone, Apple and Google know they can't survive on Phones alone, and Sony had better be fully aware that they can not rely on consoles alone.
For PlayStation to remain a viable OS in the marketplace Sony has to be competitive with the other OS's on the market. All other OS's are becoming available on TVs, Set Top Boxes, Tablets, Laptops, Phones, consoles, PCs, and pretty much every other little nik nak on the market. An OS that ties your content to one piece of hardware is going to be a joke in the next 5 years. Games are being built on scalable engines, and phones with XBO/PS4 level capability are going to be here in the next 2 - 3 years. The only difference between games going forward is going to be resolution and frame rate. If Sony can not offer an array of products that massivly increase the value of your software library, then there will be no place in the market for PlayStation.
They don't have to be the number one Phone maker, Tablet Maker, Laptop Maker, Home Assistant Maker, or Wearable Maker. But, they damn sure better have those products available for the 55M+ people that are buying into their eycosystem. Build every product around the same basic hardware, and cut R&D cost massivly. Sell all products at a profit, so even if they only have 30M PS Phone users and 15M PS Laptop users, at least the product is profitable. Most of all, stop competeing against yourself by building products with other companies OSs. All Bravia and Xperia device need to run on a Sony OS, and help create more incentive for app creation on the platform.
If Sony can not run on its own OS, and build its own ecosystem, then they have no need to be in the hardware business. They are better off just supplying chips and tech to other companies. At that point they should sell off their TV, Camera, Phone, Gaming, Music, and Movie business, because they are no longer a consumer products company.
Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
