I mean they have been talking about building organs in a petri dish... they were making cartilage and able to replace peoples ears... so I think initially investigations into these techniques might be a bit gross, but ultimately they will get a better and less gross method (or a method that doesnt make you feel a little queezy)... of course if I had organ failure and they had an organ available that would save my life and it was harvested with pigs, I would no doubt jump at the chance to live longer. |
With the advances we see in science I wouldn't be suprised if we started seeing whole organs being grown outside of animal bodies. For the time being I'm sure there will be people that will reject animal grown organs (like the most hard core vegans). People will probably remain sceptical to this kind of treatment for some years just because we're sceptical in general.
I do think this will be the biggest breakthrough since antibiotics. In stead of trying to mend body parts the best we can we'll probably just end up putting in new ones a lot more than we do currently. Exciting times!
