I remember it as the dawn for british heavy metal. It was the birth era for bands like Iron Maiden, Saxon, Judas Priest, Diamond Head and many others. It was also a great decade for rock both hardrock and normal rock with bands like ACDC, Dire Straits, U2, Guns n Roses etc. The music out of that era is in my opinion the best ever made.
As for OP the best simple minds song is Belfast Child.
