I'm not sure about the timeline, but I've been fairly certain for some time now we'll see major shift in industry once volumetric displays become commercially viable.
On one hand there will be classic gaming industry pushing probably for VR tech (3rd or 4th gen, if we're considering this as 1st gen), on the other, part of that very same industry, along with boardgaming industry, pushing for volumetric displays.
Anyway, fun times ahead.
