the point i'm making is that mechanics change within all game franchises, but for some reason that fact is only acknowledged in nintendo games by some people

And again, I tell you to play the game. There's a far bigger difference between Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64/Sunshine than between Vice City and GTA V. GTA has made the obvious progression of bigger and more immersive worlds thanks to increasingly powerful hardware. While SM64 and Sunshine actually had bigger and more open levels than Galaxy - even though Galaxy was on a more powerful console. Galaxy simply focused on something entirely else/new. It made an evolution that wasn't just dictated by more powerful hardware.
