Nothing about the Switch looks like taking it slowly to me. Zelda is effectively a Switch game because it doesn't release on Wii U first. Mario Kart will be on the system by the end of the second month. Splatoon will get a sequel in summer. A new 3D Mario for the holidays. Inbetween there are titles like Arms, 1-2-Switch, Fire Emblem Warriors and Xenoblade 2. Plus there can be unannounced smaller games for 2017; we've just seen a Direct with an unknown 3DS game that launches in four months. Perhaps we are going to see Super Smash Bros. 4 Deluxe for the holidays. When you compare quantity and pedigree of the lineup to what the 3DS and Wii U got in their respective first ~10 months, Switch is the clear winner. It looks like Nintendo wants to have their biggest IPs on the system faster than ever. A couple of holes are going to be filled with remasters, but it's still impressive. |
Yay, it totally blows away the first year of WiiU/3DS. But I expect 2018 to be a constant flush of games. Maybe the word is "slower" then, not just "slow". I think that 2017 will be the worst Switch year. Once Nintendo gives all the focus to the Switch, and their usual third party supporters too... Well, if everything goes right I think we could be talking about the best catalogue since... decades. That's why I'm way more excited about the next year. Just make a list with the franchises that are missing from the Switch. It's insane. I did it today for fun. I kind of got dizzy once I saw my "possible" catalogue.
