But see, this is what concerns me; what if they plan on keeping 3DS alive beyond 2017, or even making a successor to it? The idea of having all Nintendo games on one platform instead of split between two was arguably the strongest proposition in Switch's favour, but Nintendo isn't acting like this is their plan. |
You shouldnt worry then. Most of 3DS first party games are small projects.Yoshi is a port, Pikmin is a stupid 2D platformer, Echoes is a project that was already long ways into development(and it seems that it wont even get retail, may be wrong), Warriors on 3DS was probably a way to convince more easily Koei to work on the project and make the game for Switch, and so on.As far as I know, the most ambitious project on it is Ever Oasis.
So dont worry. As a company, it makes sense for them to keep at least minimal support on the 3DS and ride the momentum it got from these last few months, but it will eventually die down and everyone will move to the Switch. As I see it, the 3DS is the cheap offering for people that wpouldnt pay 300 dollars for a system either way. This is a way to get money from them and keep them interested in Nintendo to, when the Switch gets more affordable, for them to make the switch.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
