I don't know, you'll probably have to use the analog stick in lieu of the d-pad for VC stuff, which is not gonna work for me or a lot of others. Plus Street Fighter which I plan on getting, so yeah, Pro Controller is not an extra for me, it's a "have to" buy. I might actually have to buy two because I like to play 2-player VC at home too, lol, so I'm looking at $140 on 2 Pro Controllers. 

Why wouldn't you be able to use the 4 directional buttons on the left joy-con though?  I mean, it's likely much harder for fighting games but I don't see why it wouldn't register at all.

The PSP used the same D-Pad as all PlayStation hardware. A "separated" cross.

How's that different from what's on the Switch, functionally speaking?
