The PS1, PS2, PSP and PS4 where not only a success because the competition screwed up. Especially since the 3DS was the most successful handheld yet. Sony knows how to market itself took over one of the biggest markets (Europe) by actually caring about that continent and made a platform for third party games and themselves. The PS3 and PS Vita where a disaster.
