SM Galaxy is way closer to SM N64 than 3d World though in my opinion, the only difference is that the Galaxy games are more linear than Super Mario 64. But the gameplay is largely the same. Those games are full 3d while the 3 world series has more resamblence with the mario bros series. It is basically super mario bros in 2.5D. In Super Mario galaxy you also need to visit worlds multiple times to collect everything and for every star you have to complete a different objective.
