This stupid topic rears it's ugly head again. How did going third party work for Sega. Sega was a top notch developer that make a great game in any genre. Now you just hope they release something decent. I don't agree with a lot of the things Nintendo does but part of what allows them to make the types of games that they do is creating their on platform. People complain about Nintendo making too many Mario and Zelda titles. That would only get worse as a 3rd party developer. You could kiss IPs like Fire Emblem goodbye.

1.Nintendo isn't Sega

2.A lot of people like Yakuza and Sega lets Atlus do their thing so Sega's fine IMO.

1. Exactly Sega was far more suited to being a third party developer than Nintendo. Sega had far more genre versatility. Nintendo's style and business model far more centered around them building a platform around their games. Sega had no such crutch. Sega's issue was that they had poor management that couldn't manage to sell some of the best games in the industry. They continued to fail to do so as a third party developer and now they aren't arguably the best developer in the industry anymore. They aren't even top 10.

2.If you think present day Sega is fine. You didn't see Sega in there prime. The Sega of today is shell of it's former self. Does the Sega of today make a top notch JRPGs, Racing Games, Action Game, Puzzle Games, Sports Game, etc? Sega of today is a run of a mill publisher with the ocassional gem. Sega in it's prime produced more gems than a diamond mine. The made great games in every genre.
