I'm one of those guys the OP is talking about. Zelda is the make or break game whenever I'm thinking of buying a Nintendo console.

When N64 came out I had to own it because of Zelda Ocarina. And I bought one.

When Gamecube came out, I didn't have to own it because I thought Wind waker looked too much cartoon and child (I don't think that today. I adore the style of Windwaker today).

When the Wii came out I liked Twilight Princess but the Wii felt like a casual toy so I couldn't buy it because of social pressure (I blame Elpresador mostly).

When Skyward Sword was about to come out for the Wii I made a bet with Khuutra about the Metacritic of Twilight Princess versus Skyrim and I won. So I couldn't buy a Wii because Zelda Skyward Sword was inferior to Elder Scrolls, plus I didn't like the design where it looked painted with a brush.

I bought a 3DS because it had Zelda Ocarina but it was too hard and I never completed the first temple.

I planned to buy the next Nintendo console thanks to Zelda: Birth of the Wild, but then I thought this is a Nintendo version of Skyrim and dumbed down, I will most likely beat the game without challenge, and since the Switch is a handheld hybrid, not even 50% of the power of an Xbone, and I don't like handhelds I might wait for a price drop.

But if Birth of the Wild gets 95% Metacritic I will buy a Switch no matter the price.
