I never really saw how mobile VR could logistically blow up; it seems analogous to drones: great in your home and open controlled spaces and terrible in public spaces. The 4K screens on mobile phones make me very concered about NS' prospects for longevity: people are going to buy the phones they need and then have to choose between a $10 4K game or a $300 sub-4K console without that game. |
not sure how many polygon based smartphone games would actually render natively in 4K, the 2D ones should be able to without any trouble though
the way I see it (especially going by the reveal trailer) is that Nintendo wants to capture an audience which might enjoy their latest iPhones and stuff, but isn't spec conscious and just enjoy the Nintendo fun factor in their traditional and party games without giving a thought to how pixelated it looks upon close inspection - we'll see how numerous and willing to buy-in that audience is pretty soon
