Nintendo has always been greedy.  I think that should be the expectation rather than something to be surprised about.  The highest margins on hardware, the highest margins on games, the slowest to reduce prices on games, and a much lower expenditure on core services despite having billions in the bank.  NES/SNES Nintendo was the single greediest corporation gaming has ever seen and only changed because the market (and government regulations) forced them.

A company can only be as greedy as consumers allow, however.  The NES/SNES stuff aside, they can do what they want.  It's up to the consumer to take action one way or another.

Maybe, but it feels more to me like they've given up on expanding their market and just want to rail as much money out of their existing fans as possible. This looks a lot more like the Wii U than the Wii to me.

I think Amiibo opened their eyes a bit.  Nintendo has said themselves that they were surprised about the primary purchasers of Amiibo.  It was intended to be for kids but, nope, the bulk of the market ended up being hardcore Nintendo fans.  If you've got a Golden Goose then why not  ... uh, I can't think of a smooth way to suggest impregnating a bird.

That is, having another bird impregnate your bird, not doing it yourself.

I don't know what I'm talking about anymore.
