It may be a more advanced version of the Wii-mote (and a less confortable one by the looks of things), but people just don't care about that stuff anymore. The Wii-mote was something new, Joy-Cons don't really do anything that's really new. They are going to be a non-factor either way, not going to be taken advantage of or a major selling point, and turn out to be a waste of R&D.
