No, you did pay for the "free" one in a B2G1 deal. You're not really getting a free one, you're just getting a 33% discount.
The jacket analogy is pretty bad since Nintendo isn't giving you a free gift, they're figuring it into the cost and attractiveness of their subscription. So it's more like if you told me that the jacket was $20 but there's also something in the pocket, and I think, "Oh, snap! It's Super Mario Bros 3!" and buy your jacket... only it turns out to be Urban Champion instead. WAAAAH!
But at least you'll only be stuck with Urban Champion for one hellish month before they take it away. So I guess their stinginess has an upside.
