A lot of things sell out on Amazon, including consoles who end up flopping. Type up almost any known game on Google with the right keywords, and you'll see a news or forum thread concerning it being "sold out on Amazon".
In fact, for some reason (maybe more fans seeking reassurance of sales?) Nintendo products seem specially prone to it. You can find out almost any Nintendo game, Amiibo, console etc. being tagged as "sold out" on the internet at some point, even and specially when sales and reviews ended up... not stellar, to say at least.
