It's not the most consumer friendly to cut price soon after release. As you mentioned 3DS, when they did that price cut they gave early adopters gifts as a "sorry"

But this is what I would do if I were Nintendo.

The system is new, so it will sell well for a few months regardless. Then come holiday season package a game with the system at the same price $300. Maybe even Mario Odyssey. Sure you miss out on some individual Mario sales, but getting switch into more hands is more important.

Then do a price cut to $250 come like March 2018 or something. Then they can probably just hang out at that price and toss in bundles here and there.
