Think of it like this, Monolith already has the engine from XCX for a large open world game, the Switch in portable mode is like twice the performance of the Wii U, they most likely are even helping to work on Zelda as well making them one third of the development team. The engine is one of the longest parts of development due to getting everything running, so with that in mind all they needed to concentrate on for 2 years was creating the characters, story and world which would speed up the development cycle and that's assuming no work was started before X released in Japan 2 and a half years ago. |
This bodes well for the next triple A zelda after BOTW then, maybe they could get it done in 3 years instead of over 5.
