Its only $700 this year, which is a lot for people struggling. The penalties would get significantly higher each year to the point people cant afford the penalty. But if you cant afford the insurance either, youre fucked. Its a broken system.

Wasn't saying $700 was cheap for struggling families. Was just talking about it's price. I think last year it was only like $300.

The point is, it is "Illegal" to not have health insurance. Thus struggling families shoudl have health insurance anyway. BUT the cheapest solution is to be illegal and pay the fine. It's fiscally more responsable for them to pay the yearly fine than it is to actually have health insurance legally. 

Until the fine is more than the actual insurance, people will do it that way.

For a lot of people the 2017 fine was probably going to be less than insurance. It was gonna be well over a thousand. But thats likely gone, republicans are going to end that.

I believe people making less than $1300 can get Obamacare free. So it makes sense for people to work less hours and get free health insurance.
