What? I thought they automatically logged it in for you as long as you were on your 3ds and it  was online?

Nope, you have to sync the acconunt with the Global Link, then talk to the girl to the right inside your Festival Plaza Castle (don't know the english name of the building) which will inform you of the current running event and ask you if you're interested in joining it, after doing that you have to come back to the same girl once in a while so that your "points" for the goal can be saved online, during the first event I was in my intense breeding period and was starving for 3ivs Pokémon/good nautres/good abilities but since I didn't know about needing to sync the account and all the other stuff I only had something like 300 Pokémon caught for the event when before the sync I probably caught more than double only by eggs...
