I just think they missed the 64, which was the jump to 3D an was also important for Nintendo for its evolution. But yeah, that pic mostly depicts the big moments in Nintendo hardware history(home consoles).

That's more like devolution. It stands for what wrecks Nintendo time and time again. Emphasize 3D and sales go down, although technically it's the focus on games that require a higher investment of time that usually goes hand in hand with the glorification of 3D.

Thats just a matter of perspective.Wether you like it or not, Nintendo needs to get on with the times, and sometimes that means more time with the titles to make it more "mainstream".And lets face it, their non 3D investements hasnt faired that well the last couple years, at least not as well as they used to.Balance is everything.

And if you wanna look at it at another angle, its thanks to the failure of the 64 and gamecube that we got the Wii and less focus on power. If thats a good thing or a bad thing, its simply a matter of persception. You wont find it hard to find acolytes for both sides, that I can garantee.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
