To the OP ....

No they probably won't ever again.

Nintendo was dumb enough to allow Sony and MS to gain a virtual monopoly on this audience, and they don't have the marketing acumen to now get said audience back as Sony/MS are too formidable for Nintendo to compete against in this area.

People associate all those IP with non-Nintendo platforms. Even with non-Western IP, I remember I have a buddy who liked Fatal Frame on the XBox, when I told him there was a new one coming out on the Wii he reacted like he was surprised such a game would be allowed on Wii.

Nintendo's allowed their brand to become stigmatized and associated as a kids-only or certainly a kids-first brand which doesn't work for most 3rd party games (not unless you're LEGO or Just Dance).

I agree. The damage at this point has already been done to the Nintendo brand and how people see them in regards to being a company that supports 3rd party developers. Nintendo, ever since the 64 have only kept their interests in mind when developing hardware. And it never really panned out for them. Their fear of piracy on consoles really shot them in the foot when they should be worrying about piracy on handhelds.

Finally I found somebody who gets it! Nintendo did this to themselves. You said it best, they dropped the ball and let Sony and Microsoft pick it up and they effectively locked themselves out of something they created, I couldn't put it better myself. Nobody did this to Nintendo, they did it to themselves.

Nintendo consoles will still sell decent amounts of software, that's not to be debated, but the type of content that sells on their platforms won't be anything like the content on PS4 or Xbox One. That's what I'm trying to get across to a lot of people on Youtube, etc.
