I love the amiibo, they're awesome and really detailed and cheap. The big problem is that they are almost useless. They should use them for much more than just unlocking something, the way Smash Bros did. I have almost every amiibo from the Smash Bros Series and, besides Smash, they're pretty much useless. Yes they unlock suits on MK8, or patterns on Yoshi's WW, but that's mostly it. Hyrule Warriors? Awful use. Code Name STEAM was ok, interesting let's say, but also, just unlocking. But well, at least it's kind of paid DLC, and you get a cool item to collect.
Another problem is how hard some of them are to find! Exclusives are a pain in the ass for us living outside the US. And sometimes they're released in such low numbers, that it's impossible to find a specific one, happened to me with Lucina, Palutena and Greninja, which I still don't own :(
