After Nintendo had put many of the big ones on the 3DS (2011-2013), their focus shifted to the Wii U which had bad hardware sales, so big IPs by default did worse than their 3DS counterparts. Then came the transitional period to new Nintendo hardware (Switch) that has Nintendo's first string development teams working hard without having game releases. Unless Nintendo messes up price point and battery life of Switch, sales should be pretty healthy. Big Nintendo IPs already sell well on their own, but they also lead to higher hardware sales which in turn benefits third party software. |
Yeah, you bring up some good points, especially the last sentence. There's definitely a lot of potential here for Nintendo and luckily we won't have to wait much longer to see how well it will do.
