Ended the best relationship of my live around your age and "regret" it. I'd be very happy with that person, we are best friends after many bumps as is natural after a relationship ends but my "regret" isn't one of true regret as in making an incorrect choice.
It's regret that I wasn't who I am now back then.
That's just being sentimental though, I've done some things over the years that I wouldn't have done because I got out, some really good things like travelling on my own across a country with just a backpack on foot and meeting some interesting people and well, we all have a path etc.
Sounds like you just have some growing up to do, but no rush. Start worrying if you are in the same place aged 35-40.
