Playing devils advocate, would that number of Wii U owners (who won't buy if BoTW Wii U version is cancelled) be significant enough? 

Not really tbh if we deducted the total number of Wii U owners from 3DS sales assuming they're 3DS owners as well who could potentially migrate and assume no Wii U owner bought a Switch as a result the would still be around 50m potential consumers to migrate which is still more than the SNES. If Wii U was significant it wouldn't have been dropped so easily in favour of Switch by Nintendo.

They won't cancel BOTW obviously just to give the platform one last send off as well as get more sales for the game.
