I think it's very likely that they are actually sequels to Mario Kart and Splatoon. A sequel to Mario Kart would make sense instead of a port because since 2005, Nintendo has been releasing a new Mario Kart game every 3 years. Next year will definitely be a brand new one based on how often they release a new one. I could definitely see a sequel to Splatoon on the Switch as well because of how popular it is on the Wii U.
