I would just say one thing Onion, you are 22 years old, I would maybe consider putting a small bit of time into this such as considering walking with company or just even making sure if you are walking somewhere it isn't alone (quiet streets) but really you have gone 1/4 of your life without experiencing something like this so the chances of it happening to you again are lower now than before, I'm just saying from a statistical point of view you have had your run in with a criminal prick (hopefully) and I think it would just be letting him win more so if you focus more on it and invest a ton of time and energy into getting a Gun to bring with you or spending a load of time on self defense lessons.
The lessons are not a bad thing to do if you happen to have the time and want to meet new people though! even just going to those might help you find people to walk about with during this sort of scenario so it would protect you more than the lessons themselves, but really don't let scum effect your life more by changing how you live because of them.
(except maybe change to something less easy to snatch like inside pockets or a backpack)

yeah for me violence was a thing of the news and movies, I mean I'm not stupid it's real and I see it everyday, but never from my point of view. So now I feel the need to defend myself and some lessons are necessary

Yeah if you feel that way and would feel safer then go for it, like I said those classes can be great just as a place to meet people and maybe even just talk to others who have had similar experiences to you so it would be a good way to chat about it (and not with people on the internets) but still I just mean don't invest a ton of time and money changing your whole life because of one asshole on the street in a chance encounter.
Really sorry again that it caught you off guard though, awful experience to have happen, go go though, head to your bank website and get those Credit cards cancelled (if you haven't already)
