At least I understood that there's a fan in the dock, in addition to gaps to allow the internal fans to keep working.

That is a misunderstanding from that site. The fan is in the NS itself. The dock just has holes/vents to allow the air to pass through the NS. Dock is just a hunk of plastic with connectors.
