Not really. It might start a war, but far from a world war scale. Russia right now is just not as big as they are during the Soviet era. Yes WW1 is also triggered by an assassination but at that time Europe is still a dominant power in the world. So the only country who can possibly trigger a WW is either US or China. Even the latter, despite a global leader in economy, still outclass by the US in terms of military tech.
