By contrast, the 3ds is dirt-cheap today. I think the tablet controller might be behind the $300 price tag. Dunno though.

While t hat is responsible for the initial 349.99$ price tag, I honestly think that the reason it's still priced at 300$ is because Nintendo was calling it quits with the Wii U. Even companies with hardware that is just as expensive as the Wii U's probably would have it down to  200$ base price by now, and yet they're still stern on their price. I honestly think the way they see it, they just don't care who buys it anymore and want to get as much gross profit out of the few people who are buying it anyways.
