Assuming the game flopped, the price can be reduced, ads can be introduced.
This is the first true experiment for Nintendo, and it won't be the last. I am sure they will toy with every business model possible on smartphones before they call it quits.

I think Apple turning the App store, into a Mario store was enough of an incentive for Nintendo. In addition, many games and apps come to iOS first, Nintendo isn't the only one to do that, and it's good business. Even some Google and Microsoft apps become available first on iOS
