That's a very interesting story, with some very personal stuff in it. I'm not surprised at the durability of the 3ds. All Nintendo hardware has knack for being tough. Even once they got into the optical disk scene, they still maintained their perch at the top in terms of build quality. I have never had a piece of Nintendo hardware break on me.
