The previous Pokemon's before Pokemon Go were 2 and 3years old. As great as boosting those games is, it's no accident that a new title was releasing in 4 months time. It seems a waste to not use the apps shortly before the release of a new entry. Surely that has the most impact. I suspect Nintendo thought it would take a little longer for people to become aware of Pokemon Go. |
I'm not saying the timing was accidental, just that their mobile games don't have to resemble their console counterparts for the boost to work as Go, when you get down it it, is very very different from the mainline games.
And yes, I do believe there will be a Mario game in early 2017. But Mario is also generally the Nintendo mascot. So it can also be used to boost Nintendo itself
