So 3D Mario is likely the direct target. However, Mario is also the Nintendo mascot. So Mario Run is also a good way for Nintendo to boost their own brand power in general in the lead up to the Switch. |
The previous Pokemon's before Pokemon Go were 2 and 3years old. As great as boosting those games is, it's no accident that a new title was releasing in 4 months time. It seems a waste to not use the apps shortly before the release of a new entry. Surely that has the most impact.
I suspect Nintendo thought it would take a little longer for people to become aware of Pokemon Go.
