They should have just left Tarkin and Leia and others out of the equation. The technology just isn't there. They're not fooling anyone. It's completely immersion breaking, especially for someone who knows those faces and voices by heart. Leia was the worst, as it's essentially the last thing you see before the credits roll. Also, let us use our imagination. We don't need to see Leia receive the plans by hand and then blast off into hyperspace on Tantive IV. We can put two and two together.

I get that it's a prequel, but the filmmakers aren't doing themselves any favors by trading in nostalgia at the expense of the here and now. Rogue One was a chance to expand the Star Wars universe. By remaining so dependent on Episodes III and IV, it felt more like a contraction.

This was not a movie to expand the universe and thank god for that. We had enough BS added with episode 7 that will need fixing. Let's add to the universe! Magical splitting time traveling energy beam! Yaay! It was literally a children's movie. Rogue was an adult's movie and i'm thankful for that.

BS? You mean new content? New characters with clear motivation and interesting personalities? That's fine by me. Remember when Star Wars was about new ideas, new possibilities? With Rogue One it's just a trip down memory lane.

Also, it's a super-powerful, system-spanning energy beam that's causing you pause? Not the alien beings who live for 900 years? Not the impossible physics of a lightsaber or FTL travel? Not the original Death Star? Not an invisible, magical force that determines everything in the universe? >_>
