We already got the confirmation by MS. Kotaku only hyped up Borderlands as being free, because it appeared as free in the store before Microsoft announced that it was part of a free weekend.

Does you have to download it or just "buy it", until December 31th?

Its most likely free for the month if true.  People would be dumb to miss out on this if true. My Xbox Digital collection is insane at this point. Makes my PS4 collection pale in comparison. I still have my reservations, but damn. Microsoft is killing it.
