I don't think they need to focus on any one platform in particular, but fair is fair, Nintendo should be included in getting Japanese SE titles unless there is absolutely, positively, no way at all that any of their games can run there.

But "boo hoo, this will require some work" is not a valid excuse.

If anything what I would suggest to Square-Enix is to reorganize and focus on PS4 and Switch for their Japanese titles and dump the XBox One or make that less of a priority.  Switch is going to be the no.1 platform in Japan, it should have all the major SE titles.

As for the franchise itself, I would suggest going back and using a cheaper graphics engine and a more FANTASY/MIDEVAL setting. Even if you're trying to appeal to a global audience, guess what, in the West we like Game of Thrones, not J-Pop boyband the game. Bring back the style of gaming to more like the SNES/PSOne era.

Would have been the likely strategy for most if ninty could stop making underpower hardware.

Wow the arrogance and delusion of that is staggering.

Past is the past. Maybe Nintendo would've stuck to making powerful hardware if Japanese developers like Square-Enix opted to give the GameCube a fair shake for one to boot.

Switch is here and now though and it should be powerful enough to handle most any port. Some work may need to be done, but it's not impossible as we're hearing games like Dark Souls III are able to run on the system and that indie studio game definitely looks like a PS4/XB1 tier of graphics.

I don't think saying Switch is going to be the no.1 platform in Japan is really a controversial statement. After almost 3 years the PS4 is sitting at only 3.4 million sold, which is very low and its gotten some big games by now -- MGSV, DQ Heroes I + II, DQ Builders, Final Fantasy XV. The Switch will be a portable Nintendo system with Pokemon, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Smash, Mario, Animal Crossing, that alone gets it probably to 10 million even on the low end alone, and that's not even accounting for Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter (likely).
