Keep in mind ... developers while having some input on these decisions, don't actually have the final say. This is not like a clubhouse where everyone sits around a table and decides what they feel like doing. The business suits have the final say. I wouldn't really be surprised to FFXV on Switch, S-E spent a ton of money developing this game including sunken costs of a 10 year development cycle for various previous versions. This is not a charity, this is a business and that money has to be made up some where or some one's head has to roll. If they can release this thing on Switch and even manage 500k-600k out of it, I think they'd be happy with that, and if they invariably release a FFXV-2: We Need To Milk This Cow For More Money, they can also then release that on Switch having build at least some ground work for it. I personally this is going to be a big moment for Square-Enix though, and I think changes are coming. Switch will be made more important, PS4 will still get the same games but I think Square's trust in it from a Japanese POV has been damaged. I think XBox One development staff will also be parred back so Switch can get more support. |
Why would Xbox One development be parred back? Its just a matter of tweaking settings for the Xbox One version vs PS4. Its why I don't understand Japanese development. Why skip Xbox One when porting to it shouldn't be difficult at all.
As for Switch, I can see it getting tons of support from the devs that made games on Vita and mobile along with 3DS stalwarts. Switch won't be hurting for games and with or without SE, Switch will be a mobile paradise in Japan.
But the tradeoff for being a 720p tablet will be that it won't be able to handle the AAA games that even struggle on PS4 and Xbox One.
