The right thing is to compare their attach ratios since there is so much discrepancy in hardware sales...

3DS is on par with GBA software, and GB in the same time frame...

The difference is Playstation is growing again. Meanwhile handhelds are plummeting.  

DS + PSP ---> Vita + 3DS 

 

And I'm pretty sure the next gen (Switch)  declines again. 

 

Whether you like it or not dedicated handhelds are a lot less healthy then home consoles.
