Getting back to modern day, the standard size of a Switch card may be smaller than the capacity of a PS4 disc (which is 50GB), but it ain't 1/10th. I'd imagine optimizing compression for the Switch with modern standards and techniques is far easier than it was doing so for the N64 two decades ago. FFXV's file size on PS4 is 40GB. I'd imagine that it wouldn't be a gargantuan feat to shave off 8GB somewhere to get it on a 32GB card. |
There was a lot of redundant data shared between all three discs. The pre-rendered backgrounds comprised most of the games space and they we're able to compress those greatly. Honestly, like RE2, the game would have looked better except form the FMV.
