Nintendo likes to control everything related to their products. They want to have everything presented the way they want to present it. It's a very ... self-focused approach to business.
Not sure how much third-party publishers are going to like it but they'll put up with it if it makes them money. If it doesn't make them money, however, then it will be added to the pile of reasons to suspend support.
