The West isn't going to save franchises like Final Fantasy. If they're relying on the West to drive franchise sales they have so far lost the plot that it's not even funny.

They are going to be irrelevant as a company if they don't build back the core base for Final Fantasy and in order to do that, the franchise needs a *healthy* vibrant traditional game platform IN Japan that Japanese people actually want to buy.

The reality is probably dawning on the Final Fantasy XVI dev team right now ... they're not going to likely get the same budget or leeway the FFXV team got. Not after these sales. S-E's only saving grace this time is they were able to stuff retail channels with a large first shipment, but retailers will remember this next they go to place orders for any future FF games. 

This is a disaster for them. Lowest selling Final Fantasy in Japan likely in almost *25 years* while likely being the most expensive to develop. Unbelievable.
